&lt;P&gt;- Almost half of people (47%) go online to learn to improve themselves and nearly one-third (31%) to find self-help experts or books.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;- The desire to learn drives people to the Internet; top areas are new subjects (68%), the world (65%), a disease or condition (61%), eating healthier (55%) and managing finances (37%).&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;- Three times as many people go online to compare prices (66%) rather than people via dating sites (21%).&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;- One-third of people (34%) go online to purchase an item; tops are household items (49%), electronics (45%); music (35%), movies (29%), and school/work supplies (29%).&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;- More men (42%) than women (36%) go online to do business.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;- 55% of women go online to find venues for personal expression compared to only 43% of men.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;- 44% of people go online to create or update blogs and 42% of people go online to read other people&apos;s blogs.&lt;/P&gt;
&lt;P&gt;-&amp;nbsp; Nearly half (48%) go online to be invisible on instant messaging, 29% to create an avatar and 28% to be somewhat different.&lt;/P&gt;

On Google&apos;s Webmaster Central Blog, Software Engineer Janis Stipins breaks down just what Google can do when it encounters SWF files:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;blockquote style=&quot;color: black&quot;&gt;- Index textual content displayed as a user interacts with the file. If you&apos;re successful in social media you&apos;ll be successful in search. This tells me you will probably do well to produce videos with a variety of different lengths. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Forums&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The next option is to sort by forums, and this appears to be another obvious one. Participate in forums. Forums are part of the overall social media marketing package. Forums might as well be social networks, whether they are called so or not. Now that users can easily search Google by forum results, it makes more sense than ever to participate and gives you a better chance of promotion. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Just like any other form of online marketing, ethics should always be considered. It&apos;s not going to make you look good if you just go into a forum and spam it. It&apos;s about participation. Discussing topics related to your business should provide the natural flow of keywords, and potentially help you rank well in this section. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Reviews&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In my test searches, &amp;quot;Reviews&amp;quot; results seem to come from pages that indicate that they are just that - reviews. This leads me to believe that you want to get your product reviewed as often as possible, or conduct reviews of other products on your site in order to show up in these results. It also tells me that you want reviews to be clearly marked as such. This tells Google that they are in fact reviews. &lt;em&gt;On a sidenote, this might be a very important option to monitor from the online reputation management standpoint. If people are out there reviewing your product, this is a good place to see those reviews. &lt;/em&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Sort them by date, and you will be able to see them from the most current, which will help you keep up with new ones. Just hope that whoever is reviewing your product is clearly marking their reviews as reviews. This option (at least in some cases) brings up different results than if the option is not enabled. While you can control the content/keywords on your website, it&apos;s a lot harder to control it on someone else&apos;s. It&apos;s pretty tough to get someone to link to you against their will.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The model simply worked - Google&apos;s results were better. The other search engines quickly caught on and looked to signals of trust for sorting through the SPAM.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Some signals that search engines use to determine whether they can trust your website:&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;bull; &lt;b&gt;Inbound links&lt;/b&gt; - quality is more important than quantity here - that&apos;s why those &amp;quot;500 directory links for $49.95&amp;quot; deals are worthless. The easiest links to get are the least valuable/powerful. A single link from Google.com, for example, would outweigh tens of thousands of weaker links - that&apos;s how much quality matters.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;bull; &lt;b&gt;Website age&lt;/b&gt; - if your website is new there&apos;s not much you can do about it without a Delorian and a working flux capacitor (&amp;quot;Marty, the website is in place - now we gotta go back to the future!&amp;quot;). Search engines also look at what websites you link to from your pages.
